Tayari Jones writes a poignant story of loss and lies, miscommunication and desperation.
I was drawn to the central themes of pregnancy, relationships, and teaching rolled into one pat story. I didnt get what I was expecting.
The ending is a bit contrived but not unrealistic (although the mother figure didn’t seem to “fit’ with the essence of the story, perhaps the lack of mother figure was the intention, since she herself is unable to then become a mother, although she is a mother figure to her students, HUH)
