Frankie's personality--always one to live on the edge of life, tumbling from one moment to the next--makes the reader cringe in anticipation and yet when that final shoe drops we are still let gasping with the enormity of it all.
I have an unhidden affection for texts with Far Eastern contexts--set in Hong Kong with pinyin Chinglish vernacular and crackling with a cross cultural awareness--makes me appreciate and treasure the depth of my own reading so much more.
